Flex 2 Essential Training & Beyond the Basics Video Training
Whew! Just wrapped up my 68th example from the Flex training videos over on Lynda.com. David Gassner really does a great job of explaining fundamental Flex 2 concepts and practices. He also goes into Caringorm a little bit and touches on a few other Design Patterns including the FrontController. Other very useful topics include: Remote Object Services, Debugging (breakpoints, expressions, etc.), Visual Effects, E4X, Events, Controls, Containers, Web Services, DataGrid, Forms, CSS, Skinning, Transitions, States, Data Binding, and many more.
I personally wanted to get a hands on feel so I went through and typed up every example. This also included debugging any compilation issues and resolving a few configuration issues. I think I’ve spent about 30+ hours going through all of the training from both video series at this point (just as a heads up if you plan to do the same thing). Note, I did go through the Essentials course two times, once to watch and once to watch and code along, so definitely take that into consideration (I also went through some of the Beyond the Basics topics more than once as well).
In my opinion this training is well worth the time and money spent ($25 per month). Thanks again for your help David, and awesome job on the training. (I actually caught some of your training at Flash Forward Seattle, but that’s a different blog post.)
I still have 10 more examples to build out (if I decide to do the .NET ones too) but they will have to wait until tomorrow. Another Flex 2 training title is Flex 2 Advanced: Using Data Services which looks really great as well I just need to find some more time!
