Here it is! The result of a ton of hard work, blood, sweat, emotion and tears. My full length album is ready for download! Thirteen songs, over fifty minutes of electronic, dubstep, jungle, downtempo music for your listening pleasure. The album is pretty light on vocal content so it’s great to throw on while you’re working, be it designing or programming.

Most of the tracks are what I guess could be called Dubstep. Some are Downtempo and others are Ragga Jungle. Some are all of that combined. It’s basically West Coast influenced, bass heavy, chopped up drums, breaks and vocals, hip hop’ish Dubstep laced with Ragga Jungle. To make things even more interesting some of the tracks are Dubstep and/or Downtempo remixes of Metalcore songs.

You can download a bundle containing the cover artwork and mp3 files here. The album is also available on soundcloud here.

Here’s the tracklist for the album:

To show my dedication and belief in my album and music I got a tatt for the album release

This is a free download containing six songs totaling almost thirty minutes of completely original (mostly Dubstep) music created and composed by me. This post is obviously not Flex related but if you know me at all then you know that music is probably the biggest passion in my life and has been for close to 25 years.

A quick rundown of my musical past… I started teaching myself guitar at age 10. I was in punk and ska bands from age 10 until about 17. Started DJing and freestyling (rhyming) when I was 16. I was in an underground Hip Hop group called the Rhythmic Architects from age 17 till about 19. We recorded an EP in the studio but it was never released. I DJ’d house parties until I was about 22 and then started Djing at clubs in Seattle and Denver (any locals remember the Snake Pit?). I’ve released 12 mix CDs under the name “thotskee” which will be available for download on my SoundCloud soon. I also created an underground Hip Hop album featuring me on vocals that was slated for release in 2001 however it never happened. I still have the album and may release it one day, we’ll see. I’ve also run various online DJ shows however they aren’t going on at the moment, but may resume. I started producing Ragga-Jungle in 2005 and wrote a slew of tunes (20+). In 2006 I started producing Dubstep tunes and that’s been my primary focus for the last 5 years. Most of the songs I make are some weird combination of Dubstep, Ragga-Jungle, Downtempo, IDM, Glitch Hip Hop and Electro. You can read more about my musical history over on Codebass in an interview they did with me last year.

I’m really excited to finally get an ‘official’ album together and released. It’s a lot of work. From the actual creative side of composing and producing the songs to the mastering, ID3 tagging, etc. Massive shouts go out to Jeremy Eslinger and Melissa Germano of Social Jet Lag for allowing me to remix the song Betting On a Dead Horse. I implore you to check out Social Jet Lag, they are a truly awesome and unique band!! Massive shouts go out to Kristina Allison from Kristina and The Dolls also for letting me remix the song Fade Out from the album The Human Condition. This is another group that you should really take a minute and get familiar with. I also gotta send massive shouts to BrittanyWho for providing the photo used on the cover of the CD. She did all the makeup, photography and modelling. Lastly, super-mega shouts to Jim Anders for help with the typography and being a true friend.

So, that’s it. Download the album, check it out. Tell everyone you know. Share it on Twitter, Facebook, anything you want. Leave a comment if you check out the album and like what you hear. I’ll be releasing more tunes in the near future. I usually post new material to my SoundCloud pretty often so keep an eye on that.

Here’s the link to download the album again. This is a completely free download. It’s a zip file containing mp3 files and the album cover/artwork.

Click the link below to get all the songs as mp3 and the cover artwork:

In the history of this blog there’s only been one non-Flex/Flash/Programming related entry. It was for the seantheflexguy DJ video webcast that was going on last year. (Good times, thanks to everyone that tuned in and showed support!) Well today is the day for another non tech blog entry.

Inspired by Deepa Subramaniam (from the Adobe Flex Team) I’d like to share my top 10 albums of 2010. She’s recently posted her Top 10 albums of 2010, you should stop by and take a look! She’s suggested others post their top 10 albums too with a few simple rules. Mainly only that the top 10 albums were released in 2010 vs. albums you listened to in 2010. I’m only going to bend the rules a little and include some albums released in the last two months. I’m a sucker for brand new music, and I’m not whipping out my whole favorite albums of all time catalog, so I don’t think it’s cheating too bad.

DISCLAIMER: I want to provide a warning right here. Most of these albums are Metalcore, so it’s pretty aggressive music. If you’ve never heard Metalcore check it out. If you like Metal, Hard Rock, Punk, etc. and haven’t heard of these groups definitely give them a chance. If you aren’t into fast, aggressive music then you’re probably not going to like any of these groups. I’ve been a huge Hardcore and Punk fan for a very long time so this stuff is awesome to me If you’re faint at heart you might want to skip these groups. I’d also like to note that some of these are Christian bands before anyone freaks out and starts calling it “The Devil’s Music” or anything silly like that.

Here’s my top 10, enjoy!

Eyes Set to Kill – Broken Frames

ESTK has been around for a few years now however I only discovered them last year. I wish I’d found out about them earlier but I’m just happy I found them. This is a totally unique and original band. Blending the beautiful vocals of Alexia Rodriguez and the powerful vocals of Cisko Miranda this group is amazing!! All of their albums are outstanding I highly recommend checking them all out. In addition Alexia has a solo album that is more acoustic and has a Pop/Electronic feel on some of the tracks, definitely worth checking out!

Social Jet Lag – The Monster Inside

Simply stated this is a fantastic album. Full of positive energy and insightful lyrics. This is another really original group! Blending the infectious voice of Melissa Germano and charging vocals of Ben Eslinger each song delivers a powerful message. I must have listened to this album about twenty times the first week it was released. SJL is an up an coming band that definitely deserves some attention!

Bring Me The Horizon – There Is a Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let’s Keep It a Secret

I’ve been listening to BMTH for a few years so I was really excited for a new release from them. This album is very complex and interesting. This band is extremely talented and the craftsmanship is apparent in every song. Each time BMTH releases a new album they strive to make if different from their previous work. This album is original and builds upon their earlier work. This is another album that blends female vocals into the brutal Metalcore vibe. Lights a Pop singer blends in and out of the tracks complimenting them greatly!

Attack Attack! – Someday Came Suddenly

The first time I checked out Attack Attack! I wasn’t really feeling it. I think it’s because they are so complex it takes a minute to digest what is going on. Blending an almost House/Electro/Pop vibe into Metalcore is something that may sound a little out there but these guys pull it off, big time. After giving them another chance and checking this album out I can’t get enough!

The Word Alive – Deceiver

This is a great, high energy album that’s pretty tough! In addition to the full on hardcore moments there is a softer side to the songs that add to this albums complexity and originality. Some excellent drum work and guitar in addition to a nice digital edge. This album will keep you on your toes with a lot of change ups and well placed digital edits.

Parkway Drive – Deep Blue

When I start getting into high speed, get work done, coding mode I’ll reach for this great album. Pretty straight ahead powerful stuff here. Not much blending of “singing” or digital elements on this album. Just powerful, raw aggression released into some fantastic music. This has more of a “Metal” feel than the albums listed above. I don’t know if I’d really compare them to Pantera but that’s the closet thing I could if forced. But more complex, rugged and of course a bit more of a modern sound.

Miss May I – Monument

This album is wicked! Another great combination of extreme power blended with somewhat softer moments. The combination is great because of the way the songs build up and then explode. The double bass on this album is out of control. Really high energy and power from this group on all their releases. I recommend checking them all out but this album from 2010 is rad!

Woe Is Me – Number(s)

Three words to describe this album: power, beauty, modern. This is another very complex album. Changing from a soft and elegant vibe to a digital vibe, to a full on rugged powerhouse vibe all in one song. This type of complexity is what I love about this style of music. This album is very unique and original. Not too many bands can pull off what Woe Is Me does on this album. Really great musicians!

I’m really feeling this album. The lyrical content is outstanding. The original singer from Attack Attack! (Austin Carlile) started Of Mice & Men. The combination of clean and unclean vocals is sick on this album. They’re a new band with only one album out at the moment but I can’t wait to hear more. A lot of power on this album, not a lot of digital elements, more straight ahead metalcore.

This album was recommended to me by Cisko from ESTK recently. I’d never previously heard of the group. I’m really glad to have found out about them! This album has a bit of a Punk feel to it in some areas which is awesome for an old school Punk rocker. A nice blend of rough, fast, slow, melodic with sparing digital elements. Definitely another unique album with their own interpretation of metalcore. Great lyrics on this album too!

I was spinning a live set from my office across the web. The set was shown for the crowd on the big screens, you can see the action in the photo in this post. Per request I played old school Hip Hop, mostly from the 80s. Tracks like: The Message, Rappers Delight, Peter Piper, La-Di-Da-Di, The Show, Boyz n the Hood, etc. It was a huge honor and I really can’t thank the crew at 360 enough for the opportunity. I should be spinning another live set on Wednesday morning, via the web for the 360 Flex attendees. In addition there is a rumor that I may be spinning at Flash and the City, still working out the details on that…
